Top 10 buggy friendly walks – Warwickshire & the West Midlands

Our friends at Coventry Rocks have shared with us their top 10 outdoor spaces in the local area – some are places we all know and love, and some hidden gems! Most importantly, they are all buggy friendly, which means you have some chance of keeping your pushchair clean, if you ignore the sticky handprints and biscuit crumbs that is!

If you didn’t know already, Coventry Rocks is a website made especially for families to find things to do in the local area. It showcases local attractions, baby and toddler groups, events, kids parties, and outdoor spaces. The website has a collection of over 50 amazing parks, nature reserves, woodlands, and family friendly walks – all in the local area. So why not take a look and find somewhere new to explore!

Abbey Fields

Abbey Fields in Kenilworth is a brilliant spot for some quality family time – with views of the historic town and Kenilworth Castle. The grassy slopes, lake and children’s play areas make it an ideal spot for a stroll and a picnic.

Allesley Park and Fairy Village

Allesley Park in Coventry is a picturesque outdoor space popular with families and dog walkers. Children love the well equipped play area and the enchanting Fairy Village is something truly special. Tiny hand-painted doors appear on trees accompanied by miniature signs saying things like “Fairies meeting place”. A brilliant place to explore with little ones.

Crackley Wood

Crackley Wood is a stunning woodland in Kenilworth, and a perfect place for a stroll with the whole family. There are lots of grand oak trees, and in May you can enjoy a spectacular blanket of bluebells!

The Sowe Valley Footpath

The Sowe Valley Footpath is a way-marked, riverside stroll along the 8 1⁄2 mile route from the north to the south of Coventry. There are some fantastic highlights along the way, and lots of wildlife to discover!

Caludon Castle Park

Caludon Castle Park is one of Coventry’s Hidden Gems!  There are two ancient monuments endorsed by English Heritage, including the remains of Caludon Castle which is Grade 1 listed. The children’s medieval-inspired play area has its very own drawbridge and shields of armour!

St Nicholas Park

There is so much to see and do for the whole family at St Nicholas Park in Warwick, including an amazing Fun Park for kids! The kids play area, mini golf, and cafe mean it’s perfect for a full day out, especially if you bring some ball games and a picnic! 

Wyken Slough Nature Reserve

Wyken Pool is the largest expanse of water in Coventry, and this picturesque nature reserve is one of Coventry’s best Hidden Gems. The reserve welcomes a rich and varied bird life to the pool, including swans, ducks and waterfowl. It’s a fantastic place for the whole family to explore.

Jephson Gardens

Jephson Gardens is a beautiful formal Victorian park in the centre of Leamington Spa – the perfect place for a relaxing stroll or family picnic. The lake with ducks and swans, the colourful flowerbeds and interesting sculptures make for a great day out!

Coombe Abbey Park

For a family day out, long walk, or a quiet picnic, Coombe Abbey Park is the place to be. It offers 500 acres of beautiful gardens, woodland, lakeside walks, and bird watching and has won many awards!

Ryton Pools Country Park

Covering 100 acres, Ryton Pools Country Park is home to many different habitats of birds and other wildlife. Have a leisurely picnic in the peace and quiet of the park, or enjoy refreshments at the Visitor Centre. There are also two kids play areas and a huge lake!
